NEW YORK ZEN COMMUNITY
FOR DŌGEN STUDY

  • New York Zen Community is a Sangha dedicated to Shikantaza Zazen and Dōgen study. We offer lectures exploring the teachings of Dōgen Zenji and other Buddhist texts, with a focus on their practical relevance and integration into daily life.

  • Part of a global network of disciples and students of Okumura Shōhaku Rōshi of the Sōtō Zen School of Japan, we are under the direct lineage of Sawaki Kōdō, Uchiyama Kōshō and Okumura Shōhaku.

  • An expanding collection of resources is being curated to support independent Buddhist study.

Please note:

There will be no classes or translation sessions on Monday, June 15th.

 

On Wednesday, June 17th, Kannon-gyō lecture will take place as usual, from 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm but there will be no evening class.

Normal Schedule resumes Monday, June 22nd.

Flower Adornment Sutra (Avatamsaka Sutra) All-Day Study Intensive takes place as scheduled: Saturday, June 20th from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm.
Morning Zazen on zoom continues throughout the month:  Monday – Friday from 7:00 am – 8:00 am followed by short readings from Dōgen’s Shōbōgenzō Zuimonki and an abbreviated Morning Service (ryaku chōka) on days ending in 4 and 9.
