Living with Precepts
March 15, 16
In anticipation of our upcoming zaike jukai ceremony (在家授戒会 lay practitioners' precepts ceremony) on March 23, Rev. Issan Koyama will be offering 5 lectures, based on the precepts manual by Okumura Rōshi, examining the meaning and significance of the precepts in our Soto Zen School.
Zaike jukkai is a manifestation of each person’s understanding of the Dharma. There is nothing given or taken. With Zaike jukkai, one openly announces to the community the intention to live as a buddhist practitioner. In this way, the precepts and the community become a support.

Sesshin
March 21thru 23
We are delighted to announce that we will be resuming our seasonal 3-day in-person sesshins at the beautiful Jogues Retreat Center in Cornwall, New York.
Friday March 21
Sesshin will begin with a communal dinner, orientation and beginner’s instruction for those who want a review of our style of shikantaza zazen. This will be followed by a couple periods of zazen.
Saturday, March 22, we will be in the zendo for eleven 40-minute periods of zazen and kinhin, and participants may join us for any or all of these periods throughout the day.
Sunday, March 23 morning zazen will end with open sosan, when we gather to share our personal experience of sesshin.
After breakfast, there will be a Precepts (Jukkai) Ceremony for students wishing to receive bodhisattva vows. Everyone is welcome to attend and support us.
